Alongside Wysing’s 2011 exhibition PAST PRESENT FUTURE SPACE-TIME, I ran a series of workshops focused on imagining our future selves, our future cities and speculative inventions. We used a combination of painting, drawing and printing with found objects and materials.
In 2013 and 2014, I ran a number of children’s half-term workshop at Wysing Arts Centre focused on story-telling, illustration and character design. Pictured below is a workshop for 8-12 year olds that took place over two days of one half term. Taking inspiration from Shaun Tan, an illustrator who uses everyday objects as the basis for his fantasy characters, participants chose objects to paint and develop through drawing into characters. Their favourite characters then became protagonists in their own comics.
